365 Days of Thankfulness: Life's Purpose
Some days I felt like purpose is a big responsibility to fill in and I wondered if I ever did fulfill any of it.
There were days that I strongly feel that I did. Today is one of those days.
It is hard to ponder the cosmic question of what is your life's greater
purpose. We all are in search of it but no definite answer was handed
down to any one.
But here's the simple truth: our existence on Earth will last for some undetermined period of time. During the entire time of living our life, we do lots of things categorized into two: important, unimportant. It is in the important things that we find happiness, contentment, joy, fulfillment. The unimportant is basically just killing our time.
For me, important is something that brings meaning to my life -- love and service to my family, passion to educate my kid, commitment to my work, respect and compassion for others -- these little things that I do every day touch other people's life. Without knowing it, I am already fulfilling one of the purposes of God for me. That is, be the light and salt of the Earth (Matthew 5:13-14).
Today, I am thankful to find meaning in the things that I do everyday and to realize that I am fulfilling my purpose without the need to hone a talent and direct it towards a certain purpose or go for a special personal mission to make world a better place. I am one piece of a bigger picture. I am where God designated me to be. I am presented with all the opportunities to touch life and make a difference one day at a time.
My prayer is to not be overwhelmed by the daily demands of life and lose my passion of service to other people. And to whoever is reading this, my prayer is for you to find purpose in whatever you do. Because life without purpose is meaningless.
