Holiday Tradition

Merry Christmas!!! Yup, you read that right. Today I added up the Christmas countdown widget on my blog. See that digits a little bit to your right? As of this writing, it reads 83 days to go.  Few flip of the calendar and Christmas will be prancing around. I LOVE Christmas. I love the spirit and the vibe that comes with it. I remember growing up, feeling thrilled and looking forward to nights of Christmas caroling with friends. We stayed awake all night on Christmas eve (Noche Buena) and ate away the sweet goodies my Mom made a day before - it was a feast and an open house celebration where everyone in the neighborhood dropped in to give us something and wish us Merry Christmas. On Christmas day, my siblings and I would go around the town, knocking house to house for candies and treats. For most, Christmas is all about tradition passed down the generations (and perhaps modified a little bit along the way). Amidst the hustle and bustle of the season, we want to make the season ...

Open Letter to Kari

Image
I have a four year old daughter and her name is Kari. Below is a letter I wrote for her at a time when my heart was full of inspiration. To my little sweetheart, Kari: You've been saying "Mommy I'm almost four!" and beaming proudly of how big a girl you've become. Today, you are officially four. And I can't help but think about how far we've come. And while time is flying by, there are days where I can't wait for you to have more independence and be more self sufficient. It's those days like today that I wish I could just freeze time and really soak in all that you are in this moment. You see, just as you are learning, I am too. This is your first time to be a kid, just as much as my first time to be a mom. You are making mistakes, I am too. But we are all in this together, figuring it out one moment at a time. But no matter what, there are few things I want you to never forget, even at four years old. You are beautiful You are the m...

Not a Perfect Mom, But Who Cares?

Image
In my pre-baby life I had it together. I get to wake up a little late and still have all the time in the world to sip my morning coffee without rushing. I enjoyed my shower and still have time to put on some makeup and carefully choose clothes from my closet that would make me look somewhat stylish (to my taste). I had the luxury of time to ironed my clothes. I jogged, played badminton or sometime spent time away in a Starbucks cafe chatting with friends. Then I became a mom. My priorities shifted. Suddenly none of these things mattered (which I am glad because I really don't have the time for those things anymore). I eventually hit my stride as a mother and managed my new 'mom' life bringing on with me some of the important aspects from my former life. My everyday is now a never ending cycle that goes something like this: 1. Wake up (before anyone does) 2. Prepare breakfast, pack lunch, prepare my kid 3. Throw on whatever fits from my closet and pretend it’s ...

My First Voice

Image
Every blog starts with the first blog post. Every blogger has to write their very first entry. Well, this is my first post for this blog. But this is not my first time to do blogging. I wrote in the past, I had a personal blog. But it has been years since I last tried. And here I am, my fingers dancing against the keyboard, a lot of pauses, a lot of backspace strokes while my mind is thinking about what to write. I've been contemplating a lot about what to put into my 'reviving blogging' first post. This contemplation compelled me to do research which led me to a handful of ideas out there. But what  sticks out really is to write this kind of 'hello, welcome' post - so you my readers would know that you've landed to where this all started. WHO AM I? I am a mom. A wife. An IT professional. A Filipina who is now currently living in Canada. I juggle family life and all the responsibilities that come with it with my full time job while still reaching th...
